Despair is in the air
On the ground, I look around
There's the dead covered in red
The stink about them is rank
My tears are now full of fears
While I think, I write in ink
I see the red and begin to dread
Inside this hole I want console
The crashes and flashes begin strong bashes
The light seems so right
I know I shouldn't go....
Because if I do, I'll never see my family again.
Depressing Victory
My fear is great
It burdens quite a weight
I sense the rage
An all new gauge
The mustard gas,
I hope it will pass
The poisonous bog,
The deadly fog,
Invisible in death.
Seeing those who chose to try
Watching the suffering helpless,
To watch the life fade from his eye
It made me cry.
The slow movements towards the enemy lines
It is in these times I think of love,
The love that people share,
Enough to care,
It is then I become aware
To fight for what is right
To make the pain end
Is just around the bend.
The fear comes back
With such a smack
I pull the trigger,
My friend shudders,
And falls dead
Numbness fills my head and body.
The field grows quite silent
Then fills with shouts of joy,
Surrounding a scared boy
And his deadly toy.
Despair is in the air
On the ground, I look around
There's the dead covered in red
The stink about them is rank
My tears are now full of fears
